Best Free Backgrounds and Patterns with a Red Color Scheme

Red is the color of passion. It is also the color of war, love, and blood. If you want to be assertive, you wear a red tie. If you want to be aggressive in a job interview, you wear a red-patterned shirt or blouse. If you want to feel sexy and romantic, you wear a skimpy red dress for dinner. If you want to declare war, you raise your red flag!

Simply put, red is the color of intense emotions, and if you use red as your background , you add vigor, strength, or power in your presentations, websites, cards or any other project that you want to undertake. The web contains a lot of fantastic backgrounds and patterns in a red color scheme so choosing one to reflect the personality and emotion that you want to convey is fairly easy—and best of all, it’s free!

Check out the following collection of red patterns and backgrounds to help inspire you to create designs full of emotion.

Radiating Red Heart Shaped Pattern

If you are one to enjoy hearts as much as I do, then this particular background will suit you well. I especially love the fact that you can edit this background to include text using any vector editor application. Immortalize your romance and sneak in to your lover’s computer and install this as his or her wallpaper. Or create romantic postcards to use for your anniversary. Let the romance begin!

Cool Red Pattern

This image is hypnotic. Red waves radiate from the center and the changing hues suggest some form of luminous energy that dazzles the eyes. The image can be downloaded in different resolutions, so you can use it no matter if you are designing business cards or a website.

Red Flower and Black Stems Background

Red is always more powerful with black. In this background, the red flowers with black stems set in a white background create a subtle but potent design.

Red Wavy Background

This background offers a clean and minimal design that is perfect for any professional design. With waves that suggest life and vibrancy, this background shows that professional does not have to be boring.

Christmas Tree Vector

Red is also the color of Christmas and what better way to celebrate the holidays but with a Christmas tree (made of shimmering stars) set off in a nice red background?

Sprayed Clipart Design

I particularly enjoy this sprayed pattern because of its simplicity and seemingly 3D effect, with pieces of shattered glass coming right at you. Clean, professional, and perfect for any background needs.

Red and Gold Psychedelic Design

This pattern is perfect for those who want to feel the groovy atmosphere of the eighties and the psychedelic ambiance of the seventies. The image looks like part of a bigger spray-painted image that conjures harmony and  peace but with a lively vibe.

Flower Power

Flowers are nice in different vibrant colors but perfect when dominated with red. Set off a floral background oozing with personality and power using the ones with red in this collection.

Mosaic Red Pattern Pack

The red color scheme in this beautiful set of mosaic, tiled patterns adds a touch of a desert feel to the designs. Use these patterns to create a nostalgic feel, a kaleidoscope touch, or an Italian look.

Decorative Kaleidoscope Pattern

This red kaleidoscope pattern could be a little overwhelming if used too much, a problem that can occur with a pattern containing mostly red hues. However, tone down the opacity or use it to attract the eye to a small section of your design and it could be quite effectively attractive.

Glazed Flakes Background

This background looks stunning with a draping, flowing design. The snowflakes make it a nice festive addition to any project.

Mock Party Background

As the name suggests, this background looks like fabric you would see on walls during a holiday party. The white space in the corner would be a great place to add festive text.

Blurred Bubbles

This is a beautiful background that almost looks like a close up of party lights and tinsel, and the red and pink hues add a nice romantic touch.

Red Carpet

Although this background has a very Valentine feel to it, you could also use it for any other romantic day of the year on greeting cards or postcards.

Reddish Grunge

The natural reddish hue of the wood background adds an earthy feel to this textured pattern.

Red Celebration

With lots of texture and movement, this background could really add some character to posters or a web page. The different shades of red and the shooting starburst gives the piece energy.

Blurry Lights

The shimmery orbs falling from the top of this background give the design a celebratory look and feel. The darker space at the bottom would be perfect for some eye-catching glittery text.

You know I’m always fascinated by the color red, not only attracts my attention easily but I find it there’s something mysterious behind this color. And you see, the color effect is really different. Try imagining all of those pictures in other colors. Excellent job!
